You are the pilot, not AI.
This is the post where I share my thought and hope in the age of active intelligence.
After ChatGPT took over the world by storm, starting a revolution unlike any time in the history of mankind, generative AI and other powerful applications are sometimes regarded as a threat to people's jobs and beyond. But, what if we can think differently in the route where we retake control and redirect our path forward in any tasks. From software engineering to creative writing, AI should and always will be the truck that conquers the bumpy road when our mind is stuck, be the bridge to connect ideas and resources, and be the compass to find unseen patterns. You are the pilot, not AI.
Intelligence is not wisdom, and interpretation is not understanding. As the intelligence of machines rises at an unimaginable or, even worse, unreachable rate, it leaves a question of what we would do to leverage our brain and body to accomplish the things that are fundamentally uncomputable, to foresee the unpredictable. It is not the age of AI, or the end of the human job market, but rather, a new chapter of human history, where we have unprecedented power and knowledge that could fundamentally transform how we live, learn, and think. We need to hope for the better with a cautious mind on our next adventure. It is not the age of artificial intelligence. It is the age of active human intelligence.
Yes, I admit it could be a bit more optimistic, but hope is not the daily fruit of life; it is the hammer that breaks the windows and sounds the alert to call into action. The action that leads us to rethink, reimagine, and reform the way we work, communicate, and believe. If population and economic growth are an unbalanced trade-off, it is now possible to amplify the unit economy of human workers. Undoubtedly, there are and have a tremendous number of jobs that vanished in years or even months. What if you are a creative entrepreneur with a brilliant idea, starting building your product from day one, with less than one month of full-time software developer's salary.
It is now the perfect moment to reframe our mindset, as the future rests within our grasp. We stand at a crossroads where we must decide whether to passively accept the status quo or proactively rewire our brains to embrace active intelligence. It's time to take control and become the pilot of our own life, from work to learning.
